Veve's Ramblings

Continued from introduction: notice that the numbers go outside of the margin because that's how I usually write. If you write the numbers inside, you are wrong. Or, you can simply edit the padding in #introduction ol in the stylesheet.

I have not done an anime layout in a very long time; I hope I haven't lost my touch. I, myself, love it. Since I have finished reading Death Note, I'd thought I'd "celebrate" with a layout. It was a very fast-pacing and intriguing series at the beginning. Then you reach the anti-climax. If you haven't read it yet, stop reading there. It comes crashing down to a very disappointing ending. It features, the very endearing "L".

Unfortunately, this is one of those few layouts that are designed for resolutions higher than 800*600. It's also a graphic-intensive one even after optimizing. I always begin setting my canvas to a maximum of 780 pixels in width. When I free transformed the image, I widened the area and forgot to adjust it to the proper dimensions. Changing the size will decrease the quality of the layout and I'm rather reluctant to do so considering the details on this layout. It's rather graphic intense. But if you really like this layout, send me an email and I'll see what I can do. On the other hand, let me give you a lesson on how to choose a premade that's appropriate for your site.

How to choose a premade

Ask youself:

  • Who are my audiences? Mothers that do not know what a browser is, or teenagers with the latest flash components? If it's the latter, chances are, your target audience will be able to accomondate fancy gadgets and high resolution designs.
  • What type of site do I own? Is there a lot of written content? Knock frames layout out of a blog. Look for a design that will not strain the eyes if a site has a lot of reading; consider colours, optimized font size, scrolling, the widths of each paragraph, a busy background.
  • What is my site about? What mood do I want to create? Subject matter and colour scheme should be appropriate. It does not make sense to have a dark Pokemon layout. It makes even less sense to have a dark Pokemon layout for a lemonade stand gone high-tech.

In the end, use common sense.
